Coastal Maine Art Workshops, Rockland,
Maine
For those of you who don’t know Rockland, it’s
been cited as one of the best “art destinations” in the
country! The six blocks that comprise Main Street (plus a few
side streets!) house great galleries, shops, restaurants, The
Farnsworth Museum and Wyeth Center, fun shopping and access to the
waterfront. Rockland has a working harbor with breakwater and and
lighthouse, fishing vessels, lobster boats, a small Coast Guard base,
ferries to the offshore islands and pleasure craft from rowboats to cruise
ships! Historic schooners offer sailing trips from a few hours to a
week or more, on a variety of vessels, large and small.
Rockland
has a long history of shipping and fishing; it’s homes and buildings
reflect a mix of wealth and working class and offer intriguing
painting opportunities in addition to its waterfront vistas. Many quaint,
coastal villages are within a ten to thirty minute drive. Famous
harbors such as Camden and Rockport are just to the north. Acadia
National Park is 2 hours away. Offshore islands, including Monhegan,
famous for its resident artists, are accessible by ferry as well.
We’ll make maps for you to great painting sites!
