All classes are plein air and based at our Rockland waterfront studio, just a few blocks north of Rockland’s downtown, and close to a variety of quintessential coastal painting sites: our famous busy harbors, quaint rural fishing villages, old barns, historic architecture, and pine-rimmed rocky beaches. You will not want to leave!

Rockland’s Main Street is full of galleries, shops and fine places to eat, plus two exemplary art museums, the Farnsworth and Maine Center for Contemporary Art.

Bringing a companion? We’re also close to golf courses, hiking and biking trails, swimming, sailing and kayaking, two fascinating museums for the sail, car and plane enthusiasts and both the School for Furniture Craftsmanship and Maine Media College.

We’re looking forward to having you join us!

Not sure what level class to choose?

Beginners should have some familiarity with the medium, an elemental grasp of color, value etc and, so important, basic drawing and simple perspective skills. If you’re shaky, make time before your workshop to learn and practice! Intermediates should have all that sufficiently in hand to be able to focus on composition and its development. Advanced Painters are developing a style statement that encompasses all their skills and experience, but want to go further. A Master Class takes the Advanced Painter deeper into their own “voice” & further toward producing fully finished work.

Plein Air painters should bring appropriate gear packed so they can easily handle all of it on their own.                                          If you are new to P/A, ask us for input and practice, practice, practice before you come!

Everywhere you look, you’ll see beautiful places to paint!  Rockland is two hours up the coast from Portland, close to quaint seaside villages, lighthouses, traditional New England architecture, rock and fir-rimmed beaches and beautiful harbors.  We have a great studio in Rockland, comfortable and well equipped, for both plein air and studio based classes. With water views, with plenty of individual work space, an instructor area/demo mirror and nearby parking. We generally carpool to painting sites, (we make sure you have lunch!) ,

We make a decision about running a class 6- 8 weeks prior…be sure to sign up early so you don’t miss out!  We’ll do everything we can to make your experience one that will send you home happy and then bring you back; many of our students and instructors have been coming here for years!  If you have any questions about anything,, email me… or call 207-594-4813; I’ll be happy to talk with you!  I do hope you will join us…this is a beautiful place to paint and a workshop with us is something you’ll remember with pleasure for a long time!
